New Presidential Boeing 747-8 Air Force One

Boeing signed a contract with US Department of Defence for the supply of the new Boeing 747-8

American aircraft manufacturers Boeing has signed a contract with the US Department of Defense for the development of a new presidential aircraft, which will be released on the basis of wide-model Boeing 747-8. As part of the pre-transaction, which amounted to 25.6 million dollars, the manufacturer will have to prepare the project itself and the estimate. Previously, it was assumed that the creation of the new aircraft will cost more than $ 1.6 billion.
The fact that replacement of two presidential VC-25 aircrafts (special version of the Boeing 747-200B) was entrusted to Boeing, it became known in January 2015. Then the US Air Force announced that Boeing 747-8 is the only type of airplane that meets the customer’s requirements. Initially, as an alternative the militaries considered other four-engines wide-body aircraft – Airbus A380 manufactured in Europe.

Development of presidential boards (Air Force One) begins on news of a record decrease in the rate of production of the Boeing 747-8, which should make one aircraft every two months, in September 2016. Management of Boeing says that the main reason for slow release of aircrafts is attenuation of air cargo market.
Terms of creation of new aircrafts were not disclosed. According to earlier data of existing planes replacement, whose age is about 30 years old, can prepare for 2021. Also it is known, that among other things the aircraft will be equipped with on-board air defense system.
